2025 Lottery Winnings Summary

I’ve decided to stop sinning, and give up buying lottery tickets. That means this post is calendar 2025 lottery winnings summary.

Previous:

3 piles of lottery tickets

Expenditures
  • 3 Colorado Lottery tickets - $7. I must have asked for an extra on one of them
  • 22 PowerBall tickets at $3 each - $66 dollars
  • 16 MegaMillions tickets at $5 each - $80 dollars

I spent $153 on tickets this quarter. I’m quitting buying lottery tickets, so that’s it for Q3 and the rest of 2025.

Winnings
  • One (1) winning PowerBall ticket, 08/09/2025 draw, $4
  • One (1) Colorado Lottery + ticket, 08/02/2025 draw, $75
  • Possibly a winning MegaMillions, 08/12/2025. The Colorado Lottery app, which reads the bar code on the tickets says I “might have a winner”, but if I look up the actual MegaMillions numbers, I did not win.

EDIT 2025-09-15 - I cashed in all three tickets. I won $133 total. I must have mis-read the MegaMillions numbers. I’ve updated this article to reflect my actual cash winnings.

2025 summary

  • First Quarter: $63 expenditure, $8 winnings
  • Second Quarter: $75 expenditure, $8 winnings
  • Second half: $153 expenditure, $133 winning

Spent $291, won $133, net loss $158.

I spent more on tickets in two months of the second quarter than I did in the first half of 2025, and I’ve spent more in 2025 than I did in 2024. Both PowerBall and MegaMillions spent long periods above $150 million, so I just kept buying tickets. Ultimately, I’m not getting any enjoyment out of lottery tickets, despite relatively big winnings. I’d rather spend $158 on tools, or toys, or even a fancy restaurant dinner. Ashes, all is ashes.
